The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology has awarded a contract to CGI Federal Inc. to continue development of the federally funded CONNECT downloadable health information exchange software.

The contract is valued at $5.7 million during the first year and includes four one-year options. Open source firm Red Hat will be a partner to CGI.

The contract to improve CONNECT comes shortly after creation of a new organization--the Alembic Foundation--to re-brand the software as Aurion and accelerate improvements (see story). Recently issued version 4.0 of Aurion includes fixes of multiple bugs, support for multiple assignment authority to better identify HIE participants, and release to the open source market.
