Metropolitan College of New York in May will begin offering an undergraduate degree in Health Care Systems Management, which will combine an understanding of business operations with a strong emphasis on the management of technology and services.

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree program will prepare graduates to qualify for specialized professional certifications, according to the college. Business coursework will cover accounting, economics, marketing, finance and human resources with a focus on health I.T. and health services management.

Specialized coursework will cover medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, health care ethics, legal issues, health care management and billing, insurance, health information technology and financial issues.

Students will split time during each semester in the classroom and working in a health care organization. The program is designed to ready students to receive professional certifications in such areas as health information management, health information technology, coding, medical administration, health information exchange and electronic health records.

An accelerated structure enables the program to be complete in two years and eight months; students with an associate degree could complete the program in four semesters. More information is available at mcny.edu.
