The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has issued two new requests for information as it works to develop a survey measuring patient satisfaction with outpatient and ambulatory surgery centers, and a survey to measure family/friend satisfaction with hospice care.

Both RFIs are available now with publication scheduled Jan. 25 in the Federal Register. For the surgical center surveys, CMS is looking for comment in such areas as access to care, customer service, providing of care information before and following surgery, access to follow-up treatment, and publicly available surveys covering patient satisfaction and patient-reported outcomes, among other factors.

The hospice RFI measures satisfaction of a family member or friend of the care given to a loved one. Topics covered include communication with providers, pain control, non-pain symptom management, and publicly available surveys for capturing hospice care experiences.

The outpatient/ambulatory RFI is here with the hospice RFI here.
