The new timeline would extend Stage 2 meaningful use through 2016. Stage 3 would begin in 2017 for providers who have completed at least two years in Stage 2. Providers will still need to attest to Stage 1 or Stage 2 meaningful use as planned for 2014. For example, if a provider has attested to Stage 1 meaningful use in 2012 and 2013, they will still attest for Year 1 of Stage 2 meaningful use in 2014. If a provider attested for Year 1 of Stage 1 in 2013, they will attest for Year 2 of Stage 1 in 2014.
