The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has added hospital outpatient and emergency department quality data to its new Healthcare.gov Web site, which aids consumers in selecting and purchasing health insurance.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has added hospital outpatient and emergency department quality data to its new Healthcare.gov Web site, which aids consumers in selecting and purchasing health insurance.

The Accountable Care Act mandated development of the insurance purchasing site, as well as state-level sites. A Compare Care Quality icon on Healthcare.gov links to CMS' existing Hospital Compare Web site of quality indicators.

Among other factors, the quality data available through the insurance Web site gives information on the quality of care for patients suffering a heart attack and outpatient surgical infection rates.

More information is available at healthcare.gov and hospitalcompare.hhs.gov.
