CHIME has long offered an annual CIO Boot Camp program for health information technology professionals newly in a CIO role or aspiring to become one, and in 2014 worked with AMDIS to develop a boot camp for new and hopeful CMIOs, with the first camp held last June. Under that agreement, CHIME also offered public policy advocacy services to AMDIS, which is a volunteer organization without paid staff.

Now, CHIME also will provide to operational, administrative and staff support to AMDIS in such areas as event management, marketing and communications, and industry relations. AMDIS members will have access to CHIME web seminars and one-day “lead forum” events, and CMIOs and those with equivalent titles will be able to attend the CHIME/HIMSS CIO Forum.

But the big reason for a tighter alliance is a joint effort to increase activities in both organizations related to medical informatics and patient safety, says Richard Rydell, CEO at AMDIS.

Industry veteran William F. Bria, M.D., who has served as CMIO at HCI Group, a health information technology consultancy, and also as chair of the AMDIS board, will become a full-time employee of CHIME and serve as a liaison between both organizations as they address issues related to informatics and safety. “This is a joint effort by CIOs and CMIOs to plan for the future,” Rydell says.

While CHIME will manage the annual AMDIS fall symposium, AMDIS will continue to sponsor and manage its Annual Physician-Computer Connection Symposium, being held June 24-26, 2015, at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa in Ojai, Calif.
