The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology in recent weeks has certified several ambulatory electronic health records software products under its 2007 criteria.

Certification of a vendor’s product does not mean all EHRs from that vendor meet CCHIT criteria. The commission certifies specific versions of specific products. The most recent certifications are:

* TouchWorks V11.1 from Allscripts LLC;

* Millennium PowerChart/PowerWorks EMR, Version 2007, from Cerner Corp.;

* HealthPort EMR V9.0 from HealthPort;

* ChartMaker Version 3.0.5 from STI Computer Services; and

* Wellogic Consult Version 3.10 Release 10 from Wellogic Inc., integrated with the MEDfx Version 2.8 practice management software of GBA Health Network Systems.

CCHIT also awarded pre-market conditional certification to the Sunrise Ambulatory, Version 4.5C, SP5 application from Eclipsys Corp. It will be fully certified once its use at a physician office has been verified.

Twenty-nine ambulatory EHRs have now been certified under 2007 criteria. The full list is available at cchit.org.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
