With a growing list of initiatives, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology is seeking volunteer members for 10 work groups.

And that doesn’t even cover CCHIT’s plans to expand certification programs to long-term care and other specialty areas once market research and other preparations are complete.

Work groups help the organization put together certification criteria and testing programs for a number of electronic health records products. This includes two new work groups to cover behavioral health and personal health records.

Other work groups looking for additional members include ambulatory, cardiovascular medicine, child health, emergency department, inpatient, interoperability, privacy and compliance, and security.

CCHIT is accepting applications through May 4 at cchit.org/volunteer. The commission also continues to accept public comment on 2008 certification criteria and test scripts through May 1 at cchit.org/participate/public-comment.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
