The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology has started a pilot of an open source compliance testing platform.
CCHIT is funding the new platform, called LAIKA, to enable it to test certification criteria as it is being developed. The platform also will enable vendors to test themselves in preparation for going through the certification process. The commission last year contracted with McLean, Va.-based MITRE Corp. to build LAIKA.
A small group of electronic health records vendors are testing the platform. The vendors will be identified after tests end in early April. CCHIT expects the platform to be complete by late May, which is also the time when it hopes to publish 2008 certification criteria. More information is available at projectlaika.org.com.
