Cerner Corp. will embed standardized, electronic perioperative documentation guidelines and templates into its surgery and anesthesia management information system.

The Kansas City, Mo.-based vendor will use the AORN SYNTEGRITY Standardized Perioperative Framework of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, Denver. AORN developed the guidelines and templates with Falls Church, Va.-based Computer Systems Corp., which markets the product.

The industry currently has no standardized guidelines for recording patient data in perioperative systems, according to the organizations. They tout the use of AORN SYNTEGRITY embedded in clinical systems as reducing staff time for configuring and supporting electronic documentation by up to 80 percent.

The product is designed to enable quick identification and documentation of patient care elements across the continuum of perioperative care, including preadmission, preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative phases. The product also includes data fields for reporting relevant operational, quality and regulatory information.
