Fla. Hospital Changes Cart Vendors

All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., is using 46 new cart-based mobile workstations in its emergency and neonatal intensive care units.

The facility has replaced a first-generation computer-on-wheels product with the Flo 1750 workstations from Norcross, Ga.-based Flo Healthcare. The original carts were mostly unused because of their bulk, lack of comfort and inability to track how much battery time was left, according to the hospital.

The new devices have a smaller footprint and run thin client workstations with 20-inch monitors. The percentage of battery life left, how much run time remains and the amount of time it will take to recharge up to 100% are displayed on the screen.

More information is available at allkids.org and flohealthcare.com.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
