CareFusion, a vendor of medication management and patient safety products and medical supplies, will acquire PHACTS LLC, which sells pharmacy management systems for hospitals.

CareFusion, a vendor of medication management and patient safety products and medical supplies, will acquire PHACTS LLC, which sells pharmacy management systems for hospitals.

Terms of the acquisition, expected to close by the end of June, were not disclosed. CareFusion expects the acquisition to have a neutral affect on adjusted earnings in the first year and increasingly contribute to earnings thereafter.

The vendors already are partners, as CareFusion announced in November 2010 that it would exclusively resell a suite of software from Seattle-based PHACTS. The applications include the PharmoCode bar code labeling system for vials and syringes, PharmoPack medication packaging and bar coding system, and the Pharmogistics inventory management application to track drugs in a hospital.

Since then, PHACTS has increased its customer base by 50 percent to more than 200 clients, according to the companies. Now, CareFusion will add the PHACTS applications to its Pyxis medication dispensing portfolio of products.
