Health care research and advisory firm Health Industry Insights predicts both payers and providers will increase spending on business intelligence software in 2008. Further, providers will increase spending on the data analytics technology more than 13% over the next 12-18 months, according to researchers at the Framingham, Mass.-based subsidiary of IDC.
The firm predicts the possible upswing in business intelligence applications in 2008 will be a result of a perceived need for improved operational effectiveness, cost containment, process improvements and patient outcomes across the provider and payer industries.
The forecast is part of the firm's Top 10 Predictions Series study released this month that includes predictions of business and technology expenses for the U.S. life sciences, provider and payer industries for 2008.
The study also predicts that providers will increase spending on outsourcing I.T. as well as technology and services for drug safety, consumer services and application service provider-based electronic health records software.
It predicts payers will spend money on consumer information management and transaction tools, as well as technology for use by consumers and provider partners.
