Buffalo HIE Automates Immunization Reporting

HEALTHeLINK, a regional health information exchange serving the greater Buffalo region in New York, now is offering providers automated immunization reporting to the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS).

State law requires providers outside of New York City to report to NYSIIS immunizations administered to patients under age 19 along with their immunization histories. Reporting is done manually by signing onto a separate information system to enter data and upload a file.

Now, HEALTHeLINK can access the immunization data from provider electronic health records systems and transmit it to NYSIIS. A reporting function also will support providers’ compliance with EHR meaningful use immunization reporting requirements.

The new service comes a month after HEALTHeLINK announced that providers operating as medical homes for Medicaid patients now can use the HIE platform to better coordinate care. Patients sign a consent form authorizing a care manager to coordinate their treatment and to access information from the HIE via a secure messaging service.
