The 5th Annual Safeguarding Health Information: Building Assurance through HIPAA Security conference, June 6-7 in Washington, comes as the final HIPAA omnibus privacy/security/breach/enforcement rule is poised for publication.

The HHS Office for Civil Rights and National Institute of Standards and Technology host the event. OCR recently sent the final HIPAA rule to the Office of Management and Budget for review, one of the last steps before publication.

Regardless of whether the final rule is published before the conference, it is an excellent opportunity to talk with federal officials and attend presentations brimming with guidance on complying with the HIPAA rules and the related Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act.

Sessions will cover regulatory updates, enforcement activities, integrating security into health information technology initiatives, safeguarding mobile devices, and removing sensitive data from the Internet, among other topics.
