River Falls (Wis.) Medical Clinic has notified approximately 2,400 patients of a breach of their information after an employee of a cleaning service stole paper medical records from shredding bins, the River Falls Journal newspaper reports.

Police found not only the clinic’s property in the suspect’s home, but also items from city hall and the library, as well as drugs. Protected health information in the paper records included name, date of birth, diagnostic codes, insurance information, patient account and medical chart numbers, and some Social Security numbers, according to the newspaper. The police also allege the employee stole unspecified equipment from the clinic.

The clinic is offering paid identity protection services from AllClear ID to affected patients, has installed secure shredding bins, and has verified credentials of cleaning and other personnel.
