A growing number of hospital emergency departments are sending daily information to BioSense. Data analytics software within BioSense searches for patterns in submitted data that could indicate natural disease outbreaks or bioterrorism. Submitted data includes chief complaint, some patient demographic data, daily midnight census, certain laboratory results, nurse and physician diagnoses, and vital signs.
The Training 1 tool is designed for beginner users of BioSense who are not familiar with the system or have not used it on a regular basis. The Training 2 tool is for intermediate to advanced users looking for additional skills to use the network in an emergency situation.
CDC also is developing two surveys to e-mail to those who have used the training tools. The surveys will help assess the goals and value of the tools. More information is available in a CDC-posted notice published March 10 in the Federal Register, at gpoaccess.gov/fr/index.html.
