Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City is beginning to transmit radiology results to the electronic health records systems of referring physicians.

The 1,386-bed hospital has implemented the KeyEngine interoperability software of CriticalKey LLC, Oak Brook, Ill. The software connects to more than 20 different EHR systems, according to the vendor.

Beth Israel already is sending up to 140 radiology results daily to more than 80 referring physicians at Manhattan's Physician Group. In the first week, the practice was able to reassign a full-time employee whose job had been to track down results, says CIO Steve Vickner.
