Real-time location systems software vendor Awarepoint Corp. has new bed and bay sensor technology that enables tracking of equipment, patients and caregiver interactions in tight spaces such as emergency departments and pre- and post-anesthesia units.

Christiana Care Health System in Delaware beta tested the system and now is implementing it in two hospitals and a new freestanding emergency department. The system enables accurate tracking of interactions even in triage areas separated by curtains, says Linda Laskowski Jones, R.N., vice president of emergency and trauma services for the delivery system.

According to the vendor, the system, called Bed and Bay Sensor, also captures data for calculating critical care time by physicians for billing, documents respiratory treatment times for charge capture, and records caregiver time at the bedside for acuity and productivity calculations, among other features.
