Australia has selected its vendor team for a $467 million initiative to offer a personal health record to its 22 million citizens that providers also can populate.

Accenture is the prime contractor for the project. Subcontractors include Oracle Corp. for patient records management, Orion Health for consumer and provider Web portals, and Telstra for Web hosting.

Called the Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record, the PHR will enable consumers to access and enter their medical information, permit providers to also view and update the PHR, and include an access audit trail.

The Australian government expects the PHR system to be ready by July 2012.
