San Diego-based Awarepoint Corporation, vendor of a technology platform for real-time location systems to track patients, staff and assets, has acquired Patient Care Technology Systems, which sells RTLS software. Terms of the acquisition were undisclosed.

The deal combines the platform and software capabilities of two veteran vendors and adds 60 PCTS hospital clients to Awarepoint's 93 hospital customers. PCTS has tracking systems for the emergency, surgical, cardiovascular and radiology departments. It also sells specialized tracking software to monitor workflow, clinician hand hygiene, and temperatures of tissue, lab results, blood bags, medication and food.

PCTS will continue to operate out of its office in Charlotte, N.C., and the senior executive team will remain and report to Jay Deady, Awarepoint's CEO. The majority of PCTS' staff will stay and Awarepoint's board of directors will remain unchanged.  More information is available at awarepoint.com and pcts.com.
