Resolution Health Inc., a Columbia, Md.-based company that sells data analytics services for health plans and employers, is getting help with product development from Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore.
Johns Hopkins, serving as a paid consultant to Resolution, will involve experts from 20 of its clinical departments in refining and expanding a set of clinical rules. Resolution uses these computer algorithms to help payers and employers identify patients whose care may not be consistent with evidence-based guidelines and best medical practices. When appropriate cases are identified, the company sends notices to patients and physicians to alert them.
The Johns Hopkins experts also will help Resolution Health identify situations in which the cost of care could be reduced through elimination of services that may be less effective or no more beneficial than less expensive alternatives.
Resolution Health was acquired earlier this year by the insurer WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis.
