Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Thomson Reuters will build a data analysis system for the Kansas Health Policy Authority.
The Kansas legislature created the authority in 2005 to administer a health care database and coordinate the analysis of data from state health programs. Funding, however, was only approved last year.
The new system will include the Medstat Advantage Suite, comprising a data repository and analytic tools from Thomson Reuters, previously known as Thomson Healthcare.
The repository will contain information from the Medicaid and state employee health benefit programs. The state will use the tools to compare health care service and use patterns and identify areas needing improvement.
The federal government will pay 90% of the cost for developing the Medicaid portion, which comprises most of the project. The feds also will pay 75% of licensing and ongoing operational costs.
