Thomas Davenport, renowned author and expert on data analytics and management practices, will give a keynote presentation at the Healthcare Analytics Symposium & Expo, July 24-25 in Chicago. The event is sponsored by Health Data Management.

Davenport is the co-author of “Competing on Analytics,” which was recently named by Harvard Business Review as one of the 12 most important management ideas of the past decade; the related article was named one of the 10 “Must-Reads” articles in HBR’s 75-year history.

Published in February 2010, Davenport’s “Analytics at Work: Smarter Decisions, Better Results,” was named one of the top 15 “Must-Reads” for 2010 by CIO Insight. Scheduled for April 2012 publication, his latest book, “Judgment Calls: Twelve Stories of Big Decisions and the Teams that Got Them Right,” has already been named by Publisher’s Weekly as one of the best business books of 2012. His latest research centers around Big Data, with an article and a related book planned for 2012-13.

During his presentation at the analytics symposium, Davenport will describe how the health care industry--including providers, payers, and life sciences companies—is poised at the edge of an analytical revolution. He’ll describe a model for how organizations can build their analytical capabilities, and where health care organizations are today in this regard.

Davenport also will address how analytical capabilities can be deployed to improve daily care decisions within provider organizations, and the factors that need to accompany analytics to yield better care decisions. Throughout he'll provide many examples of leading practices in health care analytics, and the organizations that have adopted them.

Davenport joins a speaker line-up that includes Rick Schooler, CIO at Orlando Health and CHIME CIO of the Year; Wil Yu, special assistant of innovation and research at HHS; Steven David, M.D., COO at Hillcrest Hospital, part of  Cleveland Clinic Health System; and Bernadette Loftus, M.D., associate executive director for the Mid-Atlantic States at The Permanente Medical Group.
