The American Medical Association is supporting a state rule that encourages electronic processing of workers’ compensation claims.

The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions developed the rule, which California and Texas have adopted, with Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina and Oregon moving toward adoption, according to the AMA, which will work with stakeholders to promote adoption.

The AMA contends electronic processing of workers’ compensation claims can save a physician 55 percent--based on 6,200 claims a year--compared with paper claims. The association has more information on electronic billing for workers’ compensation here.
