National Patient Safety Awareness Week is March 6-12 and the American Medical Association is offering a downloadable Medication Safety Checklist and urging consumers to analyze their medicine cabinets.

The checklist encourages consumers to create and carry a list of current medications. It also asks a series of questions with recommendations based on the answers. Questions cover taking medications that some doctors don't know are being taken, taking all prescribed medications at correct times, letting doctors know when and why you stopped taking a medication, important medication issues to discuss with physicians and questions to ask.

The list is available here.
