A new toolkit from the American Health Information Management Association is designed to guide processes for ensuring that document management and imaging systems support an organization’s transition to electronic health records.

Document imaging and management will continue to play a big role in achieving a fully integrated EHR, says AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon. “This innovative toolkit provides guidance on the process from document receipt through upload to the EHR.”

The kit includes a point of integration table between the document management system and EHR, and offers best practices for prepping and scanning documents, capturing data, document storage options, indexing, and review and quality controls. The kit, free to AHIMA members and $99.95 for others, is available here.
