The American Health Information Management Association offers a new guide to help consumers access and use their medical records.

The guide explains what medical records are and why they are important to consumers; how to access and amend a record or file a complaint; what personal health records are and how they differ from medical records; and how patient portals work.

The guide, “Understanding Your Medical Record,” is available along with a Patient Bill of Rights and other resources at myPHR.com.
