The American Hospital Association's AHA Solutions subsidiary has exclusively endorsed the vWorkspace desktop virtualization technology of Quest Software Inc., Aliso Viejo, Calif.

Desktop virtualization is the use of standalone computer workstations as virtual machines, letting multiple users maintain desktops on a single, centrally located computer or server. This eliminates the need for every workstation operating as a self-contained unit with its own operating systems, peripherals and application programs.

The technology also enables centralized management of all virtual desktops from a single console, saving resources for information technology departments. The endorsement comes as hospitals are seeking ways to simplify desktop and application management, says Anthony Burke, president and CEO at Chicago-based AHA Solutions.
