McKesson Buys Revenue Cycle Vendor

The RelayHealth division of San Francisco-based McKesson Corp. has acquired HTP Inc., a Columbus, Ohio-based vendor of transactions processing and revenue cycle management software. Acquisition terms were not disclosed.

HTP’s suite of software enables hospitals to validate patient demographic information; combine eligibility and benefit determination data with hospital pricing contract data to calculate a patient’s share of treatment costs; determine a patient’s ability and propensity to pay; identify insurance coverage or financial assistance for patients; manage charity care compliance; and document medical necessity of treatment. The company also sells a clinical/financial transactions processing platform for health information exchanges. The Utah Health Information Network is a user of the platform.

RelayHealth offers claims clearinghouse services; claims management software and other revenue cycle management applications; outsourced billing services and business office management; and online patient-physician consultation software. The unit also serves pharmacies and insurers.

HTP brings to McKesson more than 40 hospital clients, about three-quarters of which previously were not McKesson clients, says Dave Mason, vice president and general manager of provider solutions at RelayHealth. The acquisition also brings new front-end, pre-treatment financial management services, he adds. For instance, it will enable RelayHealth to add new functions to its patient Web portal software, enabling patients to validate insurance coverage before treatment. This will help patients determine how much they will owe for treatment.
