Boston-based Polaris Venture Partners, a venture capital and private equity firm, has acquired a substantial majority interest in National Electronic Attachment Inc., Atlanta.

Known as NEA, the company offers secure Web portal services to enable dental and medical offices to store images of attachments. These provide additional medical documentation to support claims submitted to insurers.

The portal also includes payers' attachment requirements. This enables providers to determine before sending claims if attachments also need to be sent and which ones. Payers access the portal to view the attachments before adjudicating claims.

Tom Hughes will continue as president and CEO of NEA. Two representatives of Polaris will join the board of directors. More information is available at nea-fast.com and polarisventures.com.
