Wolters Kluwer to Buy UpToDate

Medical reference publisher Wolters Kluwer Health has announced it will acquire UpToDate Inc., a vendor of electronic, point-of-care clinical decision support software.

Contract terms were not disclosed. Launched in 1992, Waltham, Mass.-based UpToDate expects to have 2008 revenue of about $80 million. The company claims 320,000 clinicians in 130 nations, plus thousands of patients and many academic medical centers in the United States as clients. Its content is accessible via the Web, desktop computers or PDAs.

The acquisition will strengthen Wolters Kluwer Health’s position in the clinical decision support market, according to the Conshohocken, Pa.-based company.
