Hospira Acquires Rx Bar Code Vendor

Hospira Inc., a supplier of injected pharmaceuticals and intravenous medications, has acquired Sculptor Developmental Technologies Inc., which sells a bedside medication administration verification system. Acquisition terms were not disclosed.

Canonsburg, Pa.-based Sculptor was the information technology subsidiary of St. Clair Health Corp., anchored by St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh. The company’s VeriScan Rx product runs on PDAs and supports bar code and radio frequency identification technologies.

The application was developed at St. Clair Hospital, and the vendor now has more than 125 hospital clients (see story at healthdatamanagement.com.

The hospital will serve as a development and test site for Lake Forest, Ill.-based Hospira. More information is available at sculptorsoftware.com and hospira.com.
