Buy Boosts Bio-Imaging’s Trials Suite

Bio-Imaging Technologies Inc. has acquired Phoenix Data Systems Inc., a vendor of electronic data capture software for clinical trials, for $7 million in cash and $17 million in stock.

Newtown, Pa.-based Bio-Imaging designs and manages the medical imaging components of clinical trials. It also owns the CapMed personal health records software product line.

King of Prussia, Pa.-based Phoenix Data Systems’ data capture software has been used in more than 500 studies by pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device firms, as well as contract research organizations. The company had $12 million in revenue and an undisclosed operating profit in 2007.
