Revenue cycle management vendor Passport Health Communications has acquired transactions processor Data Systems Group in Sacramento, Calif., for an undisclosed sum.

Franklin, Tenn.-based Passport operates a claims clearinghouse offering a variety of transactions processing capabilities, with a specialty in insurance eligibility verification. The company also offers patient demographics verification, orders management, patient payment, and physician/patient Web portal products. In addition, it sells enterprise scheduling software following the March 2012 acquisition of STAT Technologies.

Data Systems Group is a clearinghouse serving more than 200 hospitals and 85 physician sites in 20 states with a concentration of market share in the West. Its services include handling electronic claims, remittance/payment, eligibility and claim status transactions; and tools for denial management, payment analysis, automated bad debt logs, and financial reporting. Passport picks up new market share in several states, and direct connections to several California insurers, particularly Medicaid and Medicare.
