McKesson Corp. will purchase New Zealand-based Emendo Ltd, which sells software enabling hospitals to forecast patient demand and improve patient flow, for an undisclosed sum.

McKesson will house the software, called CapPlan in its Provider Technologies division to complement its existing data analytics and workforce management products. Forecasting future patient activity enables provider organizations to allocate resources more efficiently and reduce unnecessary costs, according to McKesson.

The vendor touts a 400-bed hospital client of Emendo saving $985,000 in inpatient areas during its first year using the software. Emendo serves more than 40 hospitals in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. More information is available at http://www.emendo.co.nz/.
