Private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe has acquired GetWellNetwork, which sells a television-based communication system for patient rooms. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

GetWellNetwork’s PatientLife System has been deployed for more than 30,000 hospital beds, according to the vendor. The system includes separate products for pediatric, adult and senior patients offering educational information and entertainment such as access to email, the Internet, games and movies.

The vendor also offers multiple nursing functions via the system, including a dashboard to search for patients, view profiles, send messages, order educational materials and use discharge planning tools; and access a medication teaching tool.
