Two vendors of home patient monitoring systems have combined after Healthsense Inc. acquired WellAware Systems for an undisclosed sum.

Both companies sell a comprehensive suite of products to monitor daily activities of life, such as visits to the bathroom, activity levels, vital signs or automated wellness phone calls, along with sensors to identity indoor temperature variations or falls, to assess if a patient is doing well or may need help.

While the companies are complementary, Healthsense picks up additional market share and more advanced analytics capability, as well as technology that measures sleep quality. The companies together serve more than 20,000 individuals and the acquisition better positions Healthsense to compete in the managed care and accountable care markets, according to the vendor.
