Labotix’s Rapid Response Universal Specimen Handling system, called RRUSH, uses open architecture to sort and deliver specimens to analyzers from any vendor. The system is designed to deliver specimens to appropriate analysis and storage areas. Cerner says the system, combined with its Millennium suite of clinical software and the Cerner Copath anatomic pathology system creates a market suite to support high volume testing.
“The Labotix system is a configuration of automated modules interconnected through a transport system which is capable of rapid and efficient processing of specimens throughout the clinical laboratory,” according to the company’s Web site. “The track-based conveyor system, with bar code and/or radio frequency identification capability, transports specimens in test containers to the required analyzers for testing. Along the way, container caps are removed, aliquotting is performed to divide specimens into multiple sibling containers, tests are completed by analyzers, certain containers are taken off-line for testing in other departments, caps are replaced, and containers are placed in storage.”
