Cegedim, a software vendor serving 119,000 physicians and 16,000 pharmacies in seven European nations, has entered the U.S. market by acquiring Pulse Systems Inc., which sells ambulatory practice management and electronic health records software. Paris-based Cegedim expects to benefit from a rapidly growing U.S. market because of meaningful use incentive funds.

Terms of the acquisition--excluding an immediate $13.5 million capital infusion into Wichita, Kan.-based Pulse, but including additional payments over two years for meeting certain financial milestones--will not exceed $58 million.

The current management of Pulse will remain, as will the Wichita headquarters and offices in Boston, Dallas, and Kansas City, Mo. Pulse will use the capital infusion to increase research and development, and sales and marketing initiatives.

More information is available at pulseinc.com and cegedim.com.
