Information technology contracting firm Harris Corp. has acquired Patriot Technologies LLC, which provides I.T. services to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Melbourne, Fla.-based Harris provides a range of services for organizations in the public and private sectors and has annual revenue of about $5 billion. Under a contract with the Department of Health and Human Services, the company co-developed the CONNECT interoperability software to aid in connecting to the emerging nationwide health information network. In the private sector, Rockledge, Fla.-based Health First, a three-hospital delivery system, early this year outsourced substantial parts of its information technology operations and management to Harris under a 10-year contract.
King of Prussia-based Patriot Technologies has about 100 employees. For the VA, the company has enhanced the VistA Imaging system to enable more types of diagnostic images to be viewed in VA's electronic health records system and to more easily exchange images with Department of Defense clinicians. The company also is developing centralized health data registries for the VA and is developing next-generation architecture for the VistA EHR.
Patriot Technologies, which has a facility next to VA headquarters, will become part of the Harris Healthcare Solutions unit based in Washington. More information is available at harris.com and patriottechnologies.net.
