States are expected under the Affordable Care Act to establish online exchanges to ease comparison and purchase of health insurance by 2014. The California contract includes $183 million for initial HIX development and implementation by October 2013, and $176 million to continue development and cover operating costs for three-and-one-half-years.
Subcontractors for the project include health insurance exchange vendor Getinsured, government contractor CGI Group and Oracle Corp.
