Indian Health Facilities Adopt VoIP

The Oklahoma City Area Indian Health Service, with 10 hospitals and clinics in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas, has implemented a Voice over Internet Protocol communications network throughout the facilities.

The facilities are using a network built by LGS Innovations Inc., a Vienna, Va.-based federal contractor, and local subcontractor, Trans-Tel Central in Norman, Okla. The network provides a common four-digit dialing directory and will reduce long-distance charges, according to the vendors.

Indian Health Services, a unit of the Department of Health and Human Services, serves 1.5 million American Indians and Alaska Natives belonging to 557 tribes in 35 states.
