The RelayHealth connectivity unit of McKesson Corp. has partnered with Framingham, Mass.-based Identity Force to aid clients in complying with the Federal Trade Commission's forthcoming Red Flags rule.
The rule, with a compliance date recently extended to Nov. 1, 2009, requires many businesses, including health care organizations, to take specific steps to minimize identity theft.
RelayHealth will refer clients using its RevRunner software to Identity Force for additional applications. RevRunner aids in verifying patient identity and assisting them in obtaining health coverage.
The Identity Force software identifies suspicious activity involving Social Security numbers, credit reports and other identifying information, according to the vendor. Other tools assist in implementing best security practices and regulatory compliance activities.
In the event of a breach, the Identity Force applications include customized, templated Red Flag policies and procedures to be implemented. These include such actions as notification of affected individuals and identity protection services. The AHA Solutions unit of the American Hospital Association last fall endorsed Identity Force's software.
