The Louisiana Rural Health Information Exchange has selected several information system vendors to help it create a federated system to share electronic clinical information between community providers by March 2008.
The Baton Rouge-based organization will use the Websphere and Fusion technologies of Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM Corp. and Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Carefx Corp., respectively, as the portal framework for its initiative. It also will use single-sign-on identity management technology from Islandia, N.Y.-based CA and enterprise master person index software from Initiate Systems Inc., Chicago.
The RHIO will enable provider members of the Louisiana Rural Hospital Coalition to exchange data with the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Seven of the 24 LRHC hospitals plan to participate in the first year of the initiative. These hospitals include:
*Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi,
*Homer (La.) Memorial Hospital,
*Union General Hospital in Farmerville,
*LaSalle General Hospital in Jena,
*Hardtner Medical Center in Olla,
*DeSoto Regional Health System in Mansfield, and
*and Bunkie (La.) General Hospital.
The Louisiana Rural Health Information Exchange is being funded by appropriations made in 2007 by the Louisiana State Legislature.
