Andover, Mass.-based Radianse Inc. has introduced real-time location system receivers that can run on a hospital's existing Wi-Fi network.
The new technology is designed to receive radio frequency identification-based signals from the vendor's legacy tags, then send location data to a server via Wi-Fi.
The receivers can be plugged into electrical outlets in patient rooms, says Paul Tessier, Radianse chief strategy officer. This can enable hospitals to implement the technology more quickly and at lower cost than with conventional receivers, he adds.
