Summa Health Network, the physician-hospital organization of Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health System, will offer software to help physicians participate in pay-for-performance programs.

The voluntary programs launch this month and Summa Health hopes to get at least 200 physician participants in the first year. The physicians will have access to Web-based software from Atlanta-based MDdatacor Inc. to collect clinical data from various information systems. These include practice management, transcription, electronic records, laboratory and registry systems. The clinical data will supplement claims data typically used to support P4P programs.

The vendor's CareInformatix software pulls data from information systems to compile reports identifying patients whose existing treatment does not meet clinical guidelines. Physicians will use the reports to improve care related to diabetes, hypertension, depression, cancer screenings, osteoporosis, asthma, immunizations and smoking cessation, among other issues.
