Alabama Medicaid Expands Data Access
HDM Breaking News, May 28, 2009
Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has built a Web-based e-prescribing and patient summary application for physicians treating patients covered under Alabama's Medicaid program.
The Dallas-based vendor is testing the application, called QTool, with about 150 physicians in nine counties. In addition to being able to electronically prescribe, physicians can use QTool to access a summary of patients' emergency room, hospital and physician visits, as well as lab results and medication histories, interaction alerts and formularies.

To support e-prescribing and the patient summaries, ACS is receiving data feeds, primarily claims-based, from Alabama Medicaid fiscal agent Electronic Data Systems Inc., national e-prescribing network vendor SureScripts and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama's Medicaid managed care program.
