Cincy Hospital Goes Remote for ICU

HDM Breaking News, October 9, 2008

The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati will implement the eICU telemedicine technology that enables continuous remote monitoring of intensive care units.

Baltimore-based VISICU, a unit of Philips Healthcare, sells the technology. A team of critical care clinicians will monitor 44 ICU beds around the clock from a central location in the hospital's medical office building. Intensivist physicians will monitor the ICUs between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

The intensivists and other clinicians will monitor vital signs, medications, X-rays and other information from bedside monitors. They will alert on-site clinicians to potential problems and be available for consultation.

The Christ Hospital intends to offer the remote ICU monitoring service to other hospitals in the region. More information is available at thechristhospital.com and visicu.com.
