The American Health Information Management Association has published a 15-page analysis of the proposed federal rule to adopt the ICD-10 code sets.
The analysis offers background on why the rule was published, explains alternative coding structures considered, and highlights sections of the rule. It does not include the organization's comments and recommendations on the rule, which will come at a later date.
The analysis is intended as an overview to assist health care organizations as they consider the proposed rule. "Readers are encouraged to read the entire rule and not rely on this or any other summary of the rule," according to the association.
The analysis is available at ahima.org.
